Is it fall yet?

 

While I was on vacation I worked on this cute witches hat and because I have some very cute models where I was visiting I had to have some pictures even though I wasn't totally finished with the hat.

 

Doesn't she make a cute little witch!

 

This pattern works up quickly and will fit most sizes.

 

I used a black yarn and then found this fun fur yarn at one of the Amish shops we visited.

 

The purple was perfect for this cute witch!

 

When I got home I added the flower and made a pattern for the spider.

 

I think the spider and the flower really complete the hat.

 

I made the flower from yarn as well and added some tulle and sparkly cording.

It made me excited for the fall to come!!!

Aaaaaah, I love it!

  This last week I found exactly what I wanted above my bed, if you remember from a previous post I was having problems with the color of my bed and the color of the tins that I had above the bed.  It just happened that I had seen these at Anthropologie.  I love old things so of course I loved this mirror arrangement, it only cost $698!  I did not want to spend that type of money on some old mirrors, but low and behold on Studio 5 this last week, I happened to be home and saw this episode, Wow! That is what I wanted to do! Click on it if you want to watch how it was done there, or I will tell you how I did my version.

I happened into one of my favorite stores this week (Taipan)l and they  had these frames and mirrors for 50% off! I was able to get all of these for $12.00!  If you notice some of them are not mirrors but I will show you what I did with them.

I had some Strip eze in my paint shed and I took the mirrors and glass out of the frames and put the Strip eze on the back of the mirrors.  You don't have to wait very long and the paint starts to come off. I used a razor blade to take off the big majority of it. (Don't you love the surgical drapes and x-ray sponges that I used for this project?) I work in the OR and when something is not used it is thrown away, (it costs more to re sterilize it than it does to get a new one, crazy huh!) Well, I  love to bring the drapes and sponges and towels home to use for my painting projects.

I did notice depending on the quality of the mirror that some of the paint was harder to take off.

I really had to scrape on some of them to get it off.  There is another layer of paint under some of the mirrors.

I tried to find a mirror that was the size of the long skinny frame but was unable to find one and I suppose I could have gone to a glass store and have them cut one for me, but I just decided to sponge silver paint on the one side of the glass.

I then painted some crackle medium onto the bare frames, sorry I didn't get a picture of this part. After the paint was dry, I brushed on some different colors of lighter paint, since most of the frames were dark to start out with and I wanted lighter colors in my room.

I then found some scrapbook paper to put behind the mirrors and glass. Just parts of the pattern will show through so I chose some with different patterns.

I ended up cracking one of the smaller pieces of glass trying to get it back in the frame so I made a stop at one of my other favorite stores, Divine Inspiration,(DI) and found a cheap mirror for $1 that was exactly the size that I needed. I had run out of my Strip eze paint remover so I took some fine sandpaper and sanded off the paint on the back.  This was actually quite easy and seemed faster than the paint remover, but it was a cheap mirror!

After getting all of the mirrors back in the frames I made an arrangement on the floor of how I wanted them on my wall.

Here they are on my wall and I love how they turned out!!

I am going to paint this wall an accent color and will take them down and patch the holes that I made making them fit perfectly, shhhh, don't tell Mr. Jones I made more holes in the wall!

I am wanting to paint the wall  a similar color to the front pillow.

It even made me like the color of the bed.

This room already has tons of mirrors in it but I love the way these turned out.  I might have to call my bedroom the room of mirrors!

Aaaaaah!

While I was at the DI I also found this metal thing to hang the jewelry that I had everywhere. Of course it was only $1!

I probably need another one but for right now it works just fine, and I doubt I will find another like it there.

Here is some of the paint colors I'm trying to decide which will look best.

Fall Arrangement!

I had a special order to make a fall arrangement for a dining room table, so I thought I would share it with you and how I made it! First you need to decide what colors you want to have and the container you want to make it in. I didn't get any pictures of the container with the florist foam in it but you fill up the container so they fit tightly into your container. If you are afraid that the foam will show, you add some moss to the top of the foam. Sometimes if your arrangement is really full you won't need any, but I usually put some on the top of the foam just in case. Then decide how tall you would like it. I decided I wanted to have a topiary like effect in the middle,( I secured the three hydrangea's with raffia in the middle) and then I decided to leave the rest quite low to the container. I decided to do this so if you leave the arrangement on the table while eating you can still talk to the person across from you.

I then started filling in the bottom with berries, flowers, fruits and whatever fall you want to put in there!

Here it is finished and as full as I wanted it to be, (you just kind of know when there is enough or where you need more by moving the arrangement around and getting a good view from all sides.)
